The marblememorial to Friedrich Wilhelm III near the Luiseninsel, built by FriedrichDrake in 1849, is just one example.During the second world war and its immediate aftermath, the Tiergartenwas devastated and most of its trees either burned down or chopped up forfirewood. Reforesting and landscaping began again in 1949.
