house. The living is a vicarage, in. the diocese of<br />

Achonry, forming part of the union of Emlyfadd; the<br />

rectory is impropriate in Sir H. C. Montgomery, Bart.<br />

The tithes amount to £229. 13. 4½., of which<br />

£109, 7. 6. is payable to the lessee of the impropriator,<br />

and £120. 5. 10½. to the vicar. In the R. C. divisions<br />

the parish forms part of the union or district of Bunin-<br />

aden. There are two private schools, in which are<br />

about 200 children. There are numerous Danish raths<br />

in the parish; and about three miles westward from<br />

Colloony are the remains of Meemlough castle, built by<br />

T. B. O’Hara; the walls are still entire and are per-<br />

forated by flights of steps.<br />

KILTORAGHT, a parish, in the barony of COR-<br />

COMROE, county of CLARE, and province of MUNSTER,<br />

3½ miles (W.) from Curofin, on the road from Kilfenora<br />

to Ennis; containing 1145 inhabitants. In the civil<br />

divisions it is not known as a parish, having merged<br />

into that of Kilfenora: it comprises about 3080 statute<br />

acres, as applotted under the tithe act, a large portion of<br />

which consists of mountain pasture and bog. The<br />

living is a rectory and vicarage, in the diocese of Kilfe-<br />

nora; the rectory forms part of the union and corps of<br />

the deanery; the vicarage was episcopally united, in<br />

1795, to that of Clouney, together constituting the<br />

union of Kiltoraght in the gift of the Bishop. Of the<br />

tithes, amounting to £90, two-thirds are payable to<br />

the rector, and the remainder to the vicar. The<br />

church, for the erection of which the late Board of<br />

First Fruits gave £800, in 1813, having been injured<br />

during the late disturbances, is now in a dilapidated<br />

state; divine service is performed at the glebe-house,<br />

for the erection of which the same Board gave £450,<br />

and lent £62, in 1814. In the R. C. divisions the<br />

parish forms part of the union or district of Kilfenora:<br />

a chapel is now being erected at Inchioveagh, on the new<br />

line of road to Ennistymon. About 110 children are<br />

educated in a private school. There are some remains<br />

of a castle at Inchioveagh.<br />

KILTORKIN, a parish, in the barony of KNOCKTO-<br />

PHER, county of KILKENNY, and province of LEINSTER;<br />

containing 176 inhabitants. This parish comprises<br />

1012 statute acres, as applotted under the tithe act. It<br />

is a rectory and vicarage, in the diocese of Ossory,<br />

forming part of the union of Knocktopher; the tithes<br />

amount to £43. In the R. C. divisions it is part of<br />

the union or district of Ballyhale.<br />

KILTORMER, a parish, in the barony of LONG-<br />

FORD, county of GALWAY, and province of CONNAUGHT,<br />

3¼ miles (N. W.) from Eyrecourt, on the road to Lough-<br />

rea; containing 2133 inhabitants. It comprises 4859<br />

statute acres, as applotted under the tithe act, and a<br />

considerable quantity of reclaimable bog. Here is a<br />

constabulary police station. The principal seats are<br />

Eyreville, an elegant mansion in the Italian style of<br />

architecture, the residence of T. Stratford Eyre, Esq.,<br />

by whom it was built; Bellevue, of W. Lawrence, Esq.;<br />

Mount Pleasant, of Chas. Seymour, Esq.; Skycur, of<br />

P. Callaghan, Esq.; Ballydonagh, of F. Madden, Esq.;<br />

and Chilhame, of De La Warr Digges, Esq. The living<br />

is a vicarage, in the diocese of Clonfert, episcopally<br />

united in 1813 to the rectories and vicarages of Kil-<br />

loran and Abbeygormagan, and in the patronage, of the<br />

Bishop; the rectory is appropriate to the bishop and<br />

deanery of Clonfert. The tithes amount to £101. 10.9¼.,<br />

of which £41. 10. 9¼. is payable to the Ecclesiastical<br />

Commissioners, £27.13. 10¼. to the dean, and £32. 6. 1¾.<br />

to the vicar; the tithes of the benefice amount to<br />

£200. 18. 5½. The glebe-house was erected by a gift<br />

of £450 and a loan of £145 from the late Board of<br />

First Fruits, in 1818: there is a glebe of two acres.<br />

The church, which is in the village of Kiltormer-Kelly,<br />

was built in 1815 on a site given by T. Stratford Eyre,<br />

Esq., by a gift of £600 and a loan of £200 from the<br />

same Board, and has been recently repaired by a grant<br />

of £109 from the Ecclesiastical Commissioners; it is a<br />

neat edifice with a square tower, enclosed in a planted<br />

area. In the R. C. divisions the parish is the head of a<br />

union or district, comprising also part of Clonfert, and<br />

has a chapel at Kiltormer-Kelly. The parochial school,<br />

in which 50 children are educated, is aided by a dona-<br />

tion of £6 annually from the incumbent; and there is<br />

a national school, in which nearly 400 children are<br />

taught, for which J. Prendergast, Esq., gave the site<br />

and £50 towards its erection. There are also two private<br />

schools of about 90 children. At Ballydough, on the<br />

south side of the road, are the foundations of a large<br />

castle. A holy well here is resorted to annually on the<br />

last Sunday in July by numbers of the peasantry.<br />

KILTORMER-KELLY, a village, in the parish of<br />

KILTORMER, barony of LONGFORD, county of GALWAY,<br />

and province of CONNAUGHT, 7 miles (S. by E.) from<br />

Ballinasloe: the population is returned with the parish.<br />

This is a rising village, in a well cultivated district,<br />

within 5 miles of the Grand Canal; and has cattle fairs<br />

on the 17th of Feb. May, Aug., and Nov. A fine quarry<br />

of black marble has been recently discovered in the<br />

vicinity. Here are the parish church, R. C. chapel, and<br />

national school. It is the estate of Charles Kelly, a<br />

friar, whose ancestors founded Kilconnell Abbey, and<br />

some others in this county.<br />

KILTRISK, a parish, in the barony of GOREY,<br />

county of WEXFORD, and province of LEINSTER, 6½<br />

miles (S.) from Gorey, on the river Awen-o-varra, and<br />

two miles from the Eastern coast; containing 690<br />

inhabitants. This parish comprises 2971 statute acres,<br />

as applotted under the tithe act, and chiefly under<br />

tillage. It is a rectory, in the diocese of Ferns, form-<br />

ing part of the union of Leskinfere and of the corps of<br />

the treasurer ship of Ferns cathedral: the tithes amount<br />

to £126, out of which £23. 1. 6. is paid to the perpe-<br />

tual curate of the recently formed ecclesiastical district<br />

of Glascarrick, which see. In the R. C. divisions it is<br />

part of the union or district of Ballygarret.<br />

KILTRUSTAN, a parish, in the barony and county<br />

of ROSCOMMON, and province of CONNAUGHT, 2¾ miles<br />

(N. N. W.) from Strokestown, on the road to Elphin;<br />

containing 3543 inhabitants. It comprises 4870 statute<br />

acres, as applotted under the tithe act, and principally<br />

under an improving system of tillage. There is also a<br />

large quantity of bog, with quarries of excellent lime-<br />

stone, also limestone gravel and marl, and on the lands<br />

of Tubberpatrick some very fine potters’ earth. Lead<br />

ore has been found, but is not worked. The princi-<br />

pal seats are Tubberpatrick, the residence of Mulloy<br />

M c Dermott, Esq.; Cloneen, of Gilbert Hogg, Esq.; and<br />

Cretta Cottage, of Capt. Dillon. It is a vicarage, in the<br />

diocese of Elphin, forming part of the union of Bumlin;<br />

the rectory forms part of the corps of the prebend of Kil-
