Data from the entire set of PGE minerals identified in the Nickel Scavenger Tail-G sample are presented<br />

in Appendix 2, whereas a series of BSE images illustrating pertinent features are presented in Appendix 3.<br />

A summary of the types of PGE minerals and other precious metal particles is presented in Table 6,<br />

whereas the distribution of the mode of occurrence of these particles is presented in Table 7.<br />

In this Scavenger Tail sample, a total of nineteen PGE particles were identified. Unclassified Pd phases<br />

(Pd Antimonite and Pd tellurides) account for approximately 56 vol% of the grains identified and<br />

sperryllite (Pt-As) the remaining 44 vol%.<br />

A minor amount of particles occurs as liberated grains (~12 vol%), all of which sperrylite. In contrast,<br />

PGE minerals deported to this scavenger tail are chiefly intergrown with gangue minerals, and occur as<br />

inclusions (~ 26%), at grain boundaries (~ 17.5%), and attached to gangue minerals (~ 44%).<br />

Approximately two third of the non liberated particles (~ 66.4 vol %) are intergrown with sulphide<br />

minerals (by far mainly pyrrhotite), whereas approximately 17.2% occur intergrown with silicate gangue,<br />

and another 4.1% at silicate gangue sulphide mineral contacts.<br />

The entire group of particles identified in this Scavenger Tail also possess re-calculated grain size<br />

diameters of less than 4 µm; only two particles present a diameter coarser than 3 µm. The overall average<br />

for these particles is 1.3 µm.<br />
