to the Centre. Over the years, the Centre has widened its activities involving<br />
conducting research studies, training programmes and policy suggestions. On the<br />
basis of excellent performances of the Centre, the Ministry of Rural Development<br />
sanctioned the continuation of the Centre from 1989 till the end of 10 th Five Year<br />
Plan. It is expected that the Centre will continue to establish itself as a resource<br />
centre on land reforms in near future as well.<br />
17.15.3 The CRS has conducted two days National Seminar on “Rehabilitation and<br />
Resettlement Issues in India” from 7 - 8 August, 2008. 35 participants across India<br />
participated in this seminar. The programme was inaugurated by Shri T. S. Sridhar,<br />
Vice Chairman, Science City, Government of Tamil Nadu and valedictory address<br />
was delivered by Shri Rakesh Garg, Executive Director (T) FCI, New Delhi.<br />
CENTRE FOR DISASTER MANAGEMENT<br />
17.16 The Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India has set up the Centre for Disaster<br />
Management in LBSNAA, Mussoorie for acting as a nodal institution for imparting<br />
training on various aspects of disaster management with a special focus on incident<br />
command system (ICS). The Centre has been conducting a number of training<br />
programmes and has also been formulating the national strategy for adaptation of<br />
the global best practices to suit Indian conditions. The Centre for Disaster<br />
Management has collaborations with United States Department of Agriculture-Forest<br />
Services under GOI-USAID Disaster Management Support Program. It has also<br />
taken up the task of setting up and initiating training at regional training centres in<br />
the country. The Centre is involved in training IAS officers at induction as well as inservice<br />
levels in the field of disaster management, use of ICT, HAM radio, action<br />
research projects, documentation of best practices, development of films, conducting<br />
seminars, case studies, teaching materials, etc.<br />
17.16.1 As per the consultations between Government of India and Government of United<br />
States represented by their lead department for ICS i.e. United States Forest<br />
Services (USFS), a detailed calendar for the project has been finalised covering<br />
the process of transfer of knowledge regarding new management system,<br />
adaptation, TOT and other related areas. The calendar of events so prepared is<br />
also part of the official document of the Government of India. The LBSNAA has<br />
already started the process of training of a core group and resource persons from<br />
