PROGRESSIVE USE OF HINDI IN OFFICIAL WORK<br />
10. The Ministry continued to make concerted efforts to promote the use of Hindi in<br />
official work and to ensure compliance with the provisions of the Official Languages<br />
Act, 1963 as amended in 1967 and Rules framed thereunder as also the various<br />
orders/instructions issued by the Department of Official Language from time to<br />
time with a view to ensuring proper implementation of the Official Language Policy<br />
of the Government.<br />
IMPLEMENTATION OF OFFICIAL LANGUAGE POLICY AND THE ANNUAL<br />
PROGRAMME<br />
Machinery for Implementation<br />
10.1 The Ministry has a full-fledged Hindi Section headed by a Deputy Director(OL)<br />
with two Assistant Directors and other supporting staff. This Section caters to the<br />
need of the Department of Personnel and Training as also of the Department of<br />
Pensions and Pensioners’ Welfare. There is a separate Hindi Unit under a Deputy<br />
Director (OL) with necessary supporting staff in the Department of Administrative<br />
Reforms and Public Grievances. Besides monitoring the implementation of the<br />
Official Language Policy and the Annual Programme, Hindi Section arranges for inservice<br />
training of the staff in Hindi language, Hindi typewriting and Hindi stenography.<br />
It also undertakes translation of the material received from various sections/ desks<br />
of the Ministry from <strong>English</strong> into Hindi and vice-versa.<br />
Hindi Salahakar Samiti<br />
10.1.1Meeting of the Hindi Salahakar Samiti of this Ministry was held on 25 March, 2008<br />
under the Chairmanship of Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances and<br />
Pensions. The tenure of the Samiti has expired on 28 June, 2008. The reconstitution<br />
of the Samiti is in process.<br />
Official Language Implementation Committee<br />
10.1.2Three meetings of the Official Language Implementation Committee of the<br />
Department of Personnel and Training and the Department of Pensions and<br />
Pensioners’ Welfare were held on 6 June, 2008, 26 September, 2008 and 31 March,<br />
2009.<br />
