COMMERCIAL EMPLOYMENT<br />

8. The rules regarding grant of permission for post-retirement commercial employment<br />

of retired Group ‘A’ officers of Central Civil Services/Posts were rationalized. The<br />

period of two years after retirement, during which Government permission was<br />

necessary for taking up post-retirement commercial employment has been reduced<br />

to one year, and the guidelines in granting or refusing permission have been<br />

simplified and made generally positive, except in the cases where the organization,<br />

the retired Government servant proposes to join, has been known to be in any way<br />

in conflict with or prejudicial to India’s foreign relation, national security and domestic<br />

harmony.<br />

RECOMMENDATION OF THE SIXTH CENTRAL PAY COMMISSION<br />

9. The following orders in respect of maternity leave, child care leave, leave travel<br />

concession, deputation allowance have been issued after the recommendation of<br />

Sixth Central Pay Commission.<br />

Enhancement of the quantum of Maternity Leave<br />

9.1 Maternity Leave admissible to female Government servants has been enhanced<br />

from 135 days to 180 days with effect from the 1 st September, 2008. This would<br />

enable female Government employees in nursing of their children till the age of 6<br />

months. Further, the period of leave which can be availed of in continuation of<br />

maternity leave has also been increased to 2 years.<br />

Introduction of Child Care Leave<br />

9.2 In order to facilitate women employees to take care of their children at the time of<br />

need, Government has introduced Child Care leave with effect from 1 st September,<br />

2008. Women employees having minor children may now be granted Child Care<br />

leave for a maximum period of two years (i.e. 730 days) during their entire career<br />

for taking care of upto two children whether for rearing or to look after any of their<br />

needs like examination, sickness etc. This leave can be availed of in more than one<br />

spell and will be admissible when the Government servant has no earned leave at<br />

her credit.<br />
