provided security of two year tenure in CBI by the CVC Act, 2003. The CVC Act<br />
also provides mechanism for selection of Director, CBI and other officers of the<br />
rank of SP and above in CBI.<br />
HUMAN RESOURCE<br />
19.2 As on 31 March, 2009, the total sanctioned strength of CBI was 5961 against which<br />
4887 officers were in position with 1074 posts lying vacant. The vacancies existed<br />
in the ranks of Special Director/ Additional Director(02), Joint Director(05), Deputy<br />
Inspector General of Police(10), Superintendent of Police(32), Additional<br />
Superintendent of Police(12), Deputy Superintendent of Police(157), Inspector(103),<br />
Sub-Inspector(102), Assistant Sub-Inspector(17), Head Constable(20),<br />
Constable(63). The posts of 76 Law Officers and 101 Technical Officers’ posts at<br />
various levels were also lying vacant. A comparative manpower chart for last three<br />
years is appended below:<br />

19.2.1During the year 2008, 21 Departmental Promotion Committee meetings were held<br />
promoting 132 personnel at various levels and 1 reversion. Three Departmental<br />
Promotion Committee meetings confirmed 148 personnel. One Hundred and thirty<br />
five officers, working on deputation in different ranks, were absorbed in CBI.<br />
19.2.2During the year 2009 (upto 31 March, 2009), 12 DPCs were held promoting 93 CBI<br />
personnel at various levels.<br />
