19.7 India is one of the oldest members of Interpol, having joined the organisation way<br />

back in 1949. The National Central Bureau of India (NCB) functions as an integral<br />

part of CBI, with Director CBI being its ex-officio Head. In order to provide more<br />

active support to the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ministry of External Affairs, state<br />

police forces and other law enforcement agencies the existing co-ordination wing<br />

has been re-constituted as International Police Cooperation Unit in 2007 comprising<br />

the NCB and an International Police Cooperation Cell (IPCC). While NCB looks<br />

after all Interpol related work, IPCC handles letters rogatory, extradition requests<br />

on behalf of state police forces.<br />

CONFERENCES/ SEMIN<strong>AR</strong>S/TRAININGS/ MEETINGS ORGANISED BY<br />

INTERPOL IN COOPERATION WITH NCB INDIA<br />

19.8. During the year 2008, 34 conferences/seminars/meetings/investigations, etc.<br />

including 16 organised by ICPO- Interpol held abroad were attended by officials as<br />

against 27 in 2007 and 43 in 2006.<br />

• The 6 th Interpol Train- the- Trainer Workshop on Information Technology Crime<br />

Investigation for Asia and South Pacific/ Interpol AGIS Train- the- Trainer was<br />

held at the CBI Academy, Ghaziabad from 17 March - 4 April, 2008. The<br />

workshop focused on training trainers to enable them to run IT crime investigation<br />

course in their countries.<br />
