20.10 Section 14(2) of the Administrative Tribunals Act, 1985 empowers the central<br />

government to extend the provisions of the Act to local or other authorities within<br />

the territory of India or under the control of Government of India and to corporations<br />

or Societies owned or controlled by Government of India. In exercise of these<br />

powers, the central government had extended the provisions of the Act to 88 more<br />

organisations this year bringing the total to 191 organisations so far.<br />

20.11.With a view to improving the quality of judgements being delivered by the Central<br />

Administrative Tribunal, an initiative has been taken to send the newly appointed<br />

Members to the National Judicial Academy at Bhopal, for an orientation programme.<br />

The first of the training programmes is expected to start soon.<br />

20.12. For the first time, this year an All India National Conference of all the Members of<br />

the Central Administrative Tribunal was organized on 2 – 3 August 2008 at Vigyan<br />

Bhavan at New Delhi. The conference was inaugurated by the Chief Justice of<br />

India and the keynote address on ‘Service Law’ was given by Justice Arijit Pasayat,<br />

Judge, Supreme Court. The Minister for Law and Justice and Minister of State<br />

(Personnel) were also present.<br />
