IMPORTANT INITIATIVES / DECISIONS<br />

the individual category the awards were received by (i) Shri J.K.Tripathy, Inspector<br />

General of Police, Government of Tamil Nadu for ‘Trichy Community Policing’ , (ii)<br />

Dr.T.Chandra Shekhar, Vice President and CEO Maharashtra Housing and Area<br />

Development Authority, Mumbai for ‘Changing face of Thane and Nagpur Cities’,<br />

(iii) Ms.Sheela Rani Chunkat, Chairman, Tamil Nadu Industrial Investment<br />

Corporation Ltd., for her initiative ‘Improving Maternal and Child Survival and Health’.<br />

Under the Group category, the awards were given to (i) A team of officers from<br />

Uttar Pradesh for ‘Lokvani – an effort to empower the citizen’ (Uttar Pradesh), (ii)<br />

A team of officers from Office of Comptroller and Auditor General of India for<br />

‘Information Technology Audit Initiative’, (iii) A team of officers from State of<br />

Uttarkhand for ‘Effective Management of Protected Areas – Uttarakhand’, (iv) A<br />

team of officers at Centre for Railway Information System for ‘Unreserved Ticketing<br />

System – Ministry of Railways’, (v) A team of officers from Government of<br />

Maharashtra for ‘Rajarshi Shahu Sarvangin Karyakram, Zilla Parishad, Kolhapur,<br />

Maharashtra’, (vi) A team of officers from Government of NCT of Delhi for ‘Radical<br />

Improvement in Delhi Government School System, Government of NCT of Delhi’,<br />

(vii) A team of officers from state of Jammu and Kashmir for ‘Extraordinary<br />

Performance in Emergent Situation of Earthquake in the State of J&K’. Under the<br />

Organisation Category the awards were given to (i) Water and Sanitation<br />

Management Organisation (WASMO) – ‘Innovative Participatory Drinking Water<br />

Delivery Approach in Rural Areas of Gujarat’ – Government of Gujarat, (ii) State<br />

Poverty Eradication Mission, Kudumbashree – ‘ Asraya – Destitute Identification,<br />

Rehabilitation and Monitoring Project’ – Government of Kerala, (iii) Electronically<br />

Deliverable Services (e-Seva) – Government of Andhra Pradesh and (iv) Orissa<br />

Primary Education Programme Authority (OPEPA) – ‘Child Tracking System in<br />

CHIEF SECRET<strong>AR</strong>IES CONFERENCE<br />

19. A Conference of Chief Secretaries was held on 22 April, 2008. Shri M.K.<br />

Chandrasekher, Cabinet Secretary, while setting the agenda for the Conference,<br />

highlighted some thrust areas that needed attention. He said that the public service<br />

delivery can be improved only if corruption is minimised with transparency and<br />

simplification of the existing procedures and systems. The Conference deliberated<br />
