Access Control - Functional
This enhancement is new for Release 7.0.
Overview
The new Value-Based Security (VBS) using Fine-Grained Access Control (FGAC)
provides functionality that replaces existing Value-Based Security processing.
Existing Value-Based Security, which was based on secured views, and its related
objects are no longer supported with Release 7.0. However, FGAC can be used to
secure a new version of VBS processing if you wish to use it in that capacity. VBS uses
existing columns to secure data, which is appropriate for sets of tables that contain
security data and for securing small sets of data.
Note: Secured views, table triggers, and form triggers have been removed from
the following modules and replaced with seed data to define domains
and domain tables: Recruiting, Admissions, General Student, test scores,
GPA, Catalog, Schedule, and RORSTAT in Banner Financial Aid.
While Banner already provides role security and object level security, Fine-Grained
Access Control is used for controlling row level security. You can restrict which rows
are displayed to a user. Security checking takes place when the rows are accessed.
FGAC dynamically modifies an SQL statement in a transparent way to users by
adding a condition (WHERE clause) which restricts the rows shown to the user.
The following Financial Aid domains are included as seed data to support VBS:
RB_FINAID_STUDENT_VBS — Financial Aid and Student VBS Security
RB_FINAID_VBS — Financial Aid VBS Security
FGAC security can be defined on a table column in a primary table for predefined
domains. FGAC can also be used to secure Personally Identifiable Information
(PII).
The following Financial Aid domains are included as seed data to support PII:
RB_FINAID_PII — Financial Aid PII
