Batch Integration Framework - Functional
Overview
The Batch Integration Framework for SCT is being introduced in direct support for
the COD Full Participant project. For this release, most specifically the Import
process, RERIM05. In the summer release, the Extract process (REREX05) will also
be modified to utilize the functionality of the Batch Integration Framework.
The Batch Integration Framework is a light weight component providing XML
import and export capabilities for SCT ERP systems. It is considered light weight
compared to the SCT LDIS real time data integration solution. Potential uses for
this solution include any user initiated batch process which requires interfacing to
an SCT ERP system using XML as the data interchange format. The Batch
Integration Framework is an on demand type service, such as it is initiated by an SCT
ERP user when they need to execute this process.
This Batch Integration Framework does not require LDAP, JMS provider software,
or Web container infrastructure, and is completely independent of the LDIS
infrastructure. It will, however, provide a point-to-point integration solution. At this
time the solution requires the Import to still utilize the EdConnect software for the
transmission of the dataset, but in a short time frame SCT expects to deliver the
functionality to deliver point-to-point transmission capability for both import and
export of data.
The use of the Batch Integration Framework allow the business logic and XML
schema to be separated. The business logic remains in the SCT Banner baseline and
the XML schema logic is outside of the Banner baseline in the BIF. Within this
Framework the data is passed and schema is validated. Java toolsets have been
utilized and Banner job submission has been used. As this process has utilized the
SCT Banner Job Submission process to execute its functionality, it has also
incorporated the Job Submission security rules.
For the end user, they submit a job like normal and behind the scenes the job and
the Batch Integration Framework both execute. The normal expected data output
is received and in the case of the import process, the XML document is parsed, the
data downloaded appropriately to Banner and it is ready to be reviewed.
COD Deployment
This program uses Java 2 J2SE 1.4 technology to process XML input files and
execute PL/SQL stored procedures which implement the Banner business
processing logic.
