Section 12 Open-Learning Registration Support - Functional
Open Learning Rules Processing
• The section course start date range is used to define the period of time when a
student may elect to start their course work. These dates may be different from
the registration dates. This may be a date range or the same date. Schools may
establish sections as open learning as a replacement for part-of-term by
defining the class start date range from_date and to_date with the same day;
for example, instead of defining part-of-term A with a start date of Oct 15, the
OL:R class start dates would be defined as from Oct 15 to Oct. 15.
Open Learning Rules Processing
Open Learning rules processing include:
• All part-of-term specific or static date range processing rules are defined at the
individual section level. This includes:
• Registration status codes
• Course fee refunding factors
education, correspondence, distance education and many technical courses
within a single term.
Schools may also use the feature in SCT Banner Student for Open Learning
classes to establish what had previously been part-of-term courses. Courses may
be established at the course-section level with individual start and end dates
rather than within a specific part-of-term.
To address these issues, the Financial Aid office must be able to define
appropriate course levels for the student’s educational level. Needing to
exclude some types of remedial courses in aid calculation has long existed. In
addition, correspondence courses -- which are not part of the student’s
