Installation<br />

ALPHA ONLY- Setting Up the Fast VM as Your Virtual Machine<br />

To set up the Java environment with the Fast VM your as virtual machine, use the<br />

FAST parameter on the following command:<br />

$ @SYS$COMMON:[JAVA$14x.COM]JAVA$14x_SETUP FAST<br />

Verify your Java environment by typing the java -version command. The screen<br />

displays the following message:<br />

$ java -version<br />

java version "1.4.x"<br />

Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition<br />

Fast VM (build 1.4.x-n ...)<br />

where x is the specific version number of the release you are using, n identifies the<br />

specific update release that is installed, and Fast VM identifies the virtual machine.<br />

Modify the <strong>Banner</strong> Jobsub Account<br />

The account which will run the <strong>Banner</strong> Jobsub daemon process will need to execute<br />

the Java setup command procedure.<br />

Edit the accounts login.com and add the following line:<br />

$ @SYS$COMMON:[JAVA$14x.COM]JAVA$14x_SETUP FAST<br />

where x represents the version number of the Java SDK installed on your machine.<br />

<strong>Banner</strong> Batch Security Setup Requirements<br />

<strong>Banner</strong> Batch Security requires that all batch programs compile institution-specific<br />

SEED values into the binary program which will be used to verify that this program<br />

is authorized to perform work against a <strong>Banner</strong> production database. A java source<br />

file, SecuritySeedHolder.java, is delivered which allows the customer to enter their<br />

institution-specific SEED values for their environment.<br />

1. Modify SecuritySeedHolder.java.<br />

For Unix:<br />

Change your working directory to $BANNER_HOME/finaid/java<br />

For VMS:<br />

set def BAN_HOME:[finaid.java]<br />

For Windows NT:<br />

cd drive_letter\banner_home_directory\finaid\java<br />
