<strong>City</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Auburn</strong> Economic Development Departmentinvestment for the expansion will be$50,000,000 and is estimated to generateover $1 million annually in new sales taxand occupation license fee revenue.♦ The <strong>Auburn</strong> Workforce DevelopmentTask Force was organized in September2000 and is made up <strong>of</strong> members frommanufacturing, education, andgovernment. In September 2002 the taskforce evolved into a permanent boardcalled the <strong>Auburn</strong> Training Connection.This board will develop programs toimprove the overall availability <strong>of</strong> skilledmanufacturing labor in the <strong>Auburn</strong> area.Some <strong>of</strong> the programs ATC is currentlyworking on are a school-to-work program,an advertising campaign, a job fair at<strong>Auburn</strong> High School, and training classes.♦ Participated in the Society <strong>of</strong> AutomotiveEngineers (SAE) show in Detroit insupport <strong>of</strong> State agencies and identifiedseveral potential prospects.♦ Utilized CDBG funds to construct theBoykin Community Center Addition, aswell as funding the renovations to theexisting Center to be completed in FY 03.♦ Utlilzed CDBG funds to completeconstruction <strong>of</strong> the Bragg AvenueSidewalk, as well as conduct streetresurfacing on twelve streets located inlow-to-moderate income areas <strong>of</strong> <strong>Auburn</strong>.♦ Utilized CDBG funds to assist the FoodBank <strong>of</strong> East Alabama in acquiringadditional space for an expansion <strong>of</strong> theirservices to the counties in east Alabama.♦ Inspected, tested, and rehabilitated fourlow-income elderly households withCDBG funds.Functions and AccomplishmentsBenchmarks Achieved in FY 02♦ Attracted fifteen industrial visits during theyear.♦ Packaged three revolving loans; one for acommercial project and two for existingindustries.♦ Operated the small business incubatorthrough the <strong>Auburn</strong> Center for DevelopingIndustries and accepted two new tenants.♦ Provided utility assistance to over 80beneficiaries and 31 households withCDBG funds.♦ Referred 12 homeowners in the HousingAssistance Network/Helping HandsProgram in which homeowners withhousing needs were referred for help bycommunity agencies and/or volunteergroups.♦ Funded a youth program, Alternatives forAll Seasons, through the <strong>Auburn</strong> HousingAuthority, which provided gymnastics andsoccer classes for 20-30 youths.♦ Contributed funds to the Food Bank <strong>of</strong>East Alabama Brown Bag program toprovide food for over 100 residents <strong>of</strong><strong>Auburn</strong>.♦ Funded the Re-cycle Bike programthrough the Parks and RecreationDepartment for 10 youths to repair andreceive a bicycle.♦ Pursued the HUD Continuum <strong>of</strong> CareNetwork within the <strong>Auburn</strong>/Lee CountyArea to determine needs <strong>of</strong> the homelessin the area. In response to this issue, the<strong>City</strong> allocated homeless funding for twoprograms in FY 03.♦ <strong>Complete</strong>d the analysis <strong>of</strong> the AffordableHousing Taskforce findings and identifiedproperty to develop low-to-moderatehousing in FY 03 and 04.142
