Throughemployee commitment to provide quality PublicSafety services, the Department will strive to assurethat the residents <strong>of</strong> <strong>Auburn</strong> feel safe in theirneighborhoods and workplaces by:• Maintaining strong codes enforcement and fireprevention for safe, durable structures forhomes and businesses• Providing well-trained and equipped police<strong>of</strong>ficers and firefighters• Maintaining a quality emergencycommunication system to provide immediateresponse to citizen calls for service• Conducting effective crime prevention andapprehension programs to maintain safety anda sense <strong>of</strong> security in the communityFY 03 Goals1. <strong>Complete</strong> the design, bid, and installation <strong>of</strong> thedriveway/parking, lighting, and signage plan forthe Public Safety/Development ServicesComplex by March 31, 2003.2. Work with the Police Chief and Fire Chief todevelop a procedure for them to provide dailypolice and fire activity information to theDirector by December 31, 2002.3. Working with the Public Works Director andPolice Chief, develop a parking plan for theRoss Street complex that will effectively providefor the needs <strong>of</strong> the public, the employees, andthe police units by March 31, 2003.4. Develop a plan for training potential leadershipin management for the Police Division, in light<strong>of</strong> retirement options <strong>of</strong> key high-rankingpersonnel by September 30, 2003.5. Update the Police Division’s web site toincrease the usefulness <strong>of</strong> information providedto our citizens by June 30, 2003.6. Evaluate the Police Patrol Manpower study anddevelop a proposal for implementing therecommendation by September 30, 2003.7. Working with the Police Chief and InformationTechnology Director, develop a tracking system forthe use <strong>of</strong> the non-traffic citations and develop atraining program to insure maximum application byMarch 31, 2003.8. Develop a proposal to expand the hours <strong>of</strong> thestudent public safety <strong>of</strong>ficers to provide afterbusinesshours manning <strong>of</strong> the front desk byDecember 31, 2002.9. <strong>Complete</strong> the plans and specifications for FireStation 5 and bid the construction by September30, 2003.10. Recruit and train the student firefighters needed tostaff Station 5 and recruit and train the studentfirefighters needed to maintain full staffing for FY04 by September 30, 2003.11. Develop a comprehensive vehicle replacementprogram for the Fire Division by December 31,2002.12. Work with the Fire Chief and InformationTechnology Director to evaluate and upgrade ourcurrent fire records s<strong>of</strong>tware to comply with Stateand Federal fire records reporting requirements byMarch 31, 2003.13. Work with the Opelika Fire Department to developa program to expand the capabilities <strong>of</strong> the FireTraining Center by June 30, 2003.14. Work with Information Technology and Planning toincorporate the cross street data into our CADsystem so that we can provide automated locationand route information to the Public Safety units bySeptember 30, 2003.15. Work with the Police and Fire Divisions toconsolidate the maintenance and repair <strong>of</strong> allPublic Safety Communication Equipment underone contract by December 31, 2002.16. Continue the removal <strong>of</strong> abandoned/dilapidatedstructures by targeting at least five buildings fordemolition by September 30, 2003.17. Have each Codes inspector take at least onecontinuing education class and become certified inat least one area <strong>of</strong> inspection by September 30,2003.156
