B7.1.14B7.1.15B7.1.16B7.1.17B7.1.18The Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations (COSHH) 2002 (asamended) and Health and Safety Executive (HSE) Guidance Note EH 40/2005 onWorkplace Exposure Limits shall be complied with.Precautions shall be taken to prevent the occurrence of smoke emissions or fumesfrom site plant or stored fuel oils. Plant shall be well maintained and measurestaken to ensure that it is not left running for long periods when not in use.Bitumen shall not be overheated. Pots and tanks containing bitumen shall becovered, spillages minimised and, wherever possible, bitumen shall not be heatedwith open flame burners.Specific measures will be implemented where dust generating works are conductedclose to watercourses, waterbodies or drains.Suitable precautions shall be taken to prevent the entry of water-borne or air-bornesediments and dust into any bodies of water and any incidents shall be reported tothe Environment Agency. These measures will include the following:Stockpiling of soil and spoil and construction materials (such as sand, ballastand gravels) will be kept to a minimum and where necessary, stockpiles will becovered or seeded to provide stabilisation. Stockpiles will not be located withinor near watercourses (in accordance with defined watercourse buffer zones), orin areas at risk of flooding.During dry periods, any potential dust areas will be damped down to reducethe potential for mobilisation and deposition of sediments to the localwatercourses.Trenching or excavation activities in open land will be restricted during periodsof intense rainfall and high winds, and temporary bunding will be provided toreduce the risk of sediment, oil or chemical spills to the natural drainage systemENVIRONMENTAL RESOURCES MANAGEMENTB-28CHILTERN RAILWAYS
