There were eight UK BAP species. These were lapwing, skylark, yellowwagtail, dunnock (2 pairs), linnet (up to 15 birds), bullfinch (1 pair),yellowhammer and reed bunting (two pairs).Other species of note included little owl.7. Canalside Meadows (SP 492 101)This is a relatively small but attractive area of wet grassland withrushes, reeds and sedges which has a belt of willows and sallowsalongside the canal and mixed mature deciduous trees on its easternside.The survey recorded a total of 28 bird species of which at least 28 wereconsidered to breed.Just one breeding BOCC Red List species was noted: song thrush (2pairs). However, there were three UK BAP species. These weredunnock (3 pairs), bullfinch (1 pair) and reed bunting (1 pair).Other species of note included sedge warbler (4 pairs) and goldcrest (1pair).8. Wolvercote Green SSSI (SP 495 098)This is an area of grassland with a rushy, salix-fringed pond. There isalso a belt of trees along its western edge fringing the canal.The survey recorded a total of 21 bird species within this small area ofwhich at least 19 were considered to breed.One breeding BOCC Red List species, song thrush (2 pairs), was noted.One UK BAP species, dunnock (3 pairs), was also present.9. Wolvercote Meadows SSSI (SP 484 095)This is an area of grass fields with good quality hedgerows lyingbetween the A34 and the Wolvercote road while arms of the RiverThames form its western and eastern boundaries. As access was notobtained the site was observed on one date only from adjacent points.This produced a total of 21 bird species of which at least 19 wereconsidered to potentially breed. This included two BOCC Red Listspecies, song thrush (one pair) and house sparrow (10 birds). Dunnockand house sparrow are both UK BAP species.10.
