allows easy interchange with Kidlington buses. Public consultationindentified a number of alterations that could be accommodated to provide abetter layout for passengers, pedestrians, cyclists and vehicles. These will beincorporated during the design process with road layout, bus interchange andstation buildings improved.Islip Station New PlatformsTwo new platforms would be required to be built to allow for thereinstatement of a second track, two new platforms would be built, with ticketmachines and shelters on both platforms. Ramps with access from the roadbridge would provide step-free platform access from a new disabled parkingarea by the public road; in addition there would be a footbridge linking theplatforms via stairs to the existing station forecourt. Initially only a singleplatform would be constructed; the second platform would be built when theEast West Rail project is developed. This was the sole option selected for consultation. It fulfils Chiltern Railways’and the local community’s aspirations that Islip remain a station principallyfor local use, rather than a facility for the wider area. It will provide full accessfor all users, with a minimum of visual intrusion. Further options weresubsequently developed for consideration but rejected due to landrequirements.Relocation of Bicester Town StationFour options were ultimately considered for Bicester Town Station, althoughonly 3 options were consulted upon, and the most favourable site for the newstation building was to the north of railway with the main access route viaStation Approach. Station Approach would be straightened and widened anda new at-grade car park provided on the site of the present coach garage andpart of the trading estate. This would have capacity for future expansion tomeet rail traffic growth. A foot/cycle/bus link would be provided betweenStation Approach and Bicester Village, but this would not be accessible to cars.An entrance on the south side of the railway would also be provided, withticket machines and a drop-off point on London Road. A footbridge and liftswould link the platforms. This was the favoured option during consultation italso provided:the platform layout necessitated by signalling regulations;provision of sufficient car parking capacity;better links between London Road and Bicester Village; andit facilitates the future regeneration of this area of Bicester.ENVIRONMENTAL RESOURCES MANAGEMENTC11CHILTERN RAILWAYS
