<strong>Chiltern</strong> Line September 2009Bat Dusk and Dawn Surveyhibernation site, where bats may be found during the wintermating site, where males and females gather during the autumnfeeding site, whe re bats rest between f eeding bouts durin g the n ight but are rarelypresent during the day transitional (or swa rming) site, where bats may be pre sent du ring the spri ng orautumnsummer roost, used by males and non-breeding females2.10 The foraging activity of each bat spe cies recorded on site ha s been evaluated based on thepercentage o f total bat activity for all surv eys an d commuting a ctivity has be en evaluate dbased on the number of registrations per commuting route.2.11 This information d erived from the evaluation methods described in the above 2 paragraphs,combined with the co nservation status of the speci es co ncerned, UK and Regio naldistribution, habitat preferences, availability of suitable habitat in the su rrounding landscape,UK and Local BAP status and pres ence/status of roosts in the vicinity has been used toassign one of the following levels of geographical importance: InternationalUK and National Regi Cou DistonalntyrictLocal or Parish2.12 The value o f the site to bats overall is take n to be the hig hest level of geog raphicalimportance assigned to a particular species recorded on site.Limitations2.13 The results of the survey and assessment work undertaken by Keystone <strong>Environmental</strong> arerepresentative at the time of surveying.2.14 Keystone En vironmental staff and th eir sub-consultants will endeavour t o identify thepresence of protected species wherever po ssible on site, whe re this falls wit hin the agree dscope of works.2.15 Up to date standard methodologies will be used, which are accepted by Natural England andother statutory conservation bodies. No responsibility w ill be accepted where thesemethodologies fail to identify all specie s on site.
