1.3.3 The main features proposed for the scheme are:• A new line will be built between Oxford Station and Oxford North Junction(near Wolvercote). This will use the trackbed of the old disused line thatruns parallel to the existing main line, and is all within the existing railwayboundary. At Oxford station the bridge over the Sheepwash Channel (1) willbe widened, and the former parcels depot rebuilt to give two additionalplatforms for passenger trains.• The existing Oxford to Bicester rail route will be upgraded, from the OxfordNorth Junction (near the location on the railway that is known as Wolvercotwhich is close to Wolvercote village), through Islip to a junction with a newconnecting line at Bicester Town. The upgraded route will be mostly doubletrack, thus reinstating the facility removed by British Rail. New signallingand safety systems will be provided to equip the line for 90-100 mphoperation, and level crossings replaced, upgraded or closed wherenecessary according to their location.• A new parkway station will be built at the Water Eaton park and ride site,which has existing direct bus links to Kidlington, north Oxford, the JohnRadcliffe hospital and the city centre. The station will have two 8-carplatforms, with level access throughout, and passenger facilities includingadditional car parking, a ticket hall and coffee shop.• The sidings into the stone terminal at Banbury Road (Water Eaton) and intothe Ministry of Defence depot at Bicester will be reconfigured to permit thereinstatement of double track.• The Mill Stream and River Cherwell viaducts will be rebuilt. Most of thework will be within the existing railway boundary.• Islip station will be rebuilt with two 8-car platforms, with level accessthroughout.• Bicester Town Station will be rebuilt with two platforms, to allowreinstatement of double track. The platforms will accommodate 8-car trainsand new station buildings will be constructed. Level access will beprovided throughout, together with improved links to both the town centreand Bicester Village.A new connecting line will be constructed, from a point on the existing Bicester toClaydon Junction line (2) , just east of Tubbs Lane crossing, to a point on the Londonto Birmingham line just north of the bridge which runs over the ring road. Thisconnecting line is referred to as the Bicester Cord.
