B9.3.5Sanitary facilities will be provided to ensure that all waste is removed from the site.Foul water and sewage effluents produced by the construction workforce shall becontained by temporary foul drainage facilities to be installed. All foul water shallbe disposed of off-site by a licensed contractor.B9.4 MODIFICATIONS TO NATURAL DRAINAGE CONDITIONSB9.4.1B9.4.2B9.4.3B9.4.4B9.4.5Provisions for construction site drainage along the route of the railway will beachieved via the development and implementation of an appropriate ConstructionDrainage Plan (CDP). The plan will be developed in consultation with CRCL andwill include measures to ensure that surface water runoff is contained and managedappropriately, as described below. The CDP shall take full account of therequirements of the PPGs including PPG01 General Guide to the Prevention of WaterPollution, PPG05: Works and Maintenance in or Near Water, PPG06: Working atConstruction and Demolition Sites, PPG20: Dewatering Underground Ducts andChambers, PPG21: Pollution Incident Response Planning, and other relevant goodpractice guidance. The Sustainable Drainage Systems Hierarchy will be applied, and SUDS measuressuch as filter drains, silt traps, silt screens, settlement ponds, retention ponds orsediment mats will be installed to serve critical construction areas. Open SUDS willnot be installed in areas at medium to high risk of flooding or in areas wherepotential ground quality issues have been identified. In such circumstances closedSUDS systems will be used. Before installation of the railway, haul roads are proposed to utilise the railwaycorridor, minimising the impacts to surrounding land and drainage. Movement ofconstruction traffic will also be controlled to minimise soil compaction anddisturbance.Vehicle movements off the defined tracks and hard standing areas will beminimised. Where the railway crosses soils which are sensitive to erosion, or wheresteep gradients are encountered, consideration will be given to the deployment of aprotective surface layer.Construction phase drainage ditches, culverts, crossings and watercourses will beregularly maintained and inspected for blockages. The depth and extent ofdrainage ditches will be limited to minimise modification to natural drainagepathways.B9.5 WORKS IN THE VICINITY OF WATERB9.5.1All works undertaken in the vicinity of water (ground and surface) will required tocomply with good practice including the following PPGs of relevance to thisproject, as published by the EA:PPG01 General guide to the prevention of water pollution.ENVIRONMENTAL RESOURCES MANAGEMENTB-34CHILTERN RAILWAYS
