B12LANDSCAPE AND VISUALB12.1.1The Contractor shall take all necessary measures to minimise and avoid impacts onthe landscape and visual amenity during construction. The following measuresshall be taken in publically accessible areas to minimise impacts:i. Unnecessary tree and vegetation removal will be avoided. The retention ofexisting vegetation is particularly relevant to that currently growing on theboundary of the rail line.ii.iii.All existing trees to be retained will be protected prior to commencement ofconstruction in accordance with BS 5837: 2005, Guide for Trees in Relation toConstruction.Materials and machinery will be stored tidily during the works in order tominimise impacts on views. Portable machinery will be stored behindhoardings in compounds or covered over when not in use.iv.Lighting of compounds and works sites will be restricted to agreed workinghours (see Section 3) and those which are necessary for security.v. Where adequate material is available and the contractor’s compound is tobe in place for a t least 12 months, it shall be enclosed within a seededtopsoil and/or subsoil bund.vi.vii.viii.ix.Roads providing access to site compounds and works areas will bemaintained free of dust and mud.The contractors’ compounds must be located as far away as practicable fromresidential dwellings and the size of construction compounds must be keptto the minimum size required for efficient operation in order tominimise/avoid impacts.The haul roads or routes near residential properties created to facilitate theconstruction of the scheme will be adequately fenced and/or bounded byhoardings to limit their visual intrusion across the landscape.On completion of construction, all remaining construction materials will beremoved from the site.ENVIRONMENTAL RESOURCES MANAGEMENTB-50CHILTERN RAILWAYS
