Target Audience<br />

Objectives<br />
At the conclusion of this session, the participant will be able to:<br />
• apply new clinical research knowledge to clinical practice;<br />
• learn new findings about key conditions in pulmonary, critical care and<br />
sleep;<br />
• gain new strategies to manage the care of common conditions in<br />
pulmonary, critical care, and sleep.<br />
The annual Clinical Year in Review symposia topic reviews of the key clinical<br />
research publications over the last year. Each speaker is asked to review the<br />
5-7 most important and influential publications on their topic from the prior year.<br />

This session will provide a forum for attendees to interact with the authors and<br />
editors about papers published in JAMA and the New England Journal of<br />
Medicine. Papers presented will be recent publications, selected by the editors,<br />
to be of significant importance to the field of pulmonary medicine. Attendees will<br />
have the opportunity to hear presentations directly from the author and address<br />
questions to both the authors and editors. The discussion is intended to provide<br />
a unique insight into these papers, the selection process, and how the research<br />
applies directly to the field of pulmonary medicine.<br />

Target Audience<br />
Clinicians, nurses, fellows, residents, and researchers looking to broaden their<br />
clinical acumen to facilitate clinical and translational research.<br />
Objectives<br />
At the conclusion of this session, the participant will be able to:<br />
• recognize clinical, radiographic, and pathologic findings of rare diseases;<br />
• gain insight into clinical decision making skills demonstrated by master<br />
clinicians, radiologists and pathologists which will improve the quality of<br />
learners’ practice and potentially improve quality of care for the learner’s<br />
patients;<br />
• develop strategies to evaluate patients with common symptoms that include<br />
uncommon/rare diseases in the differential diagnosis when appropriate.<br />
This session will consist of unique cases presented and discussed by fellows<br />
with a panel of clinical experts to moderate the discussion and provide<br />
commentary. The cases will provide new insights into disease pathogenesis,<br />
diagnosis, and/or treatment. Selected cases will include clear clinical teaching<br />
points with review of associated pathology and radiology as appropriate. <strong>Final</strong>ly,<br />
the discussion will highlight medical decision making important for both<br />
physicians-in-training and seasoned clinicians.<br />
