About OVO Processes About Communication in OVO 374 OVO agents and management servers communicate through Remote Procedure Calls (RPCs), based on DCE or NCS files (that is, queues), pipes, or signals. These mechanisms apply to communication between the management server and the managed nodes, as well as to communication between processes running locally on the management server. About OVO Processes About Management Server Processes About Management Server Processes This section describes OVO processes and their associated files on the management server. Types of Processes on the Management Server This section describes the processes that run on the OVO management server. opc OVO GUI logon program that is used by the OVO administrator and operators. The program calls either opcuiadm and opcuiopadm or opcuiop, according to the user name specified. opcactm Action manager that feeds the action agents with automatic actions, operator-initiated actions, scheduled actions, and application startup and broadcasting information through the control agent. In addition, external instructions are determined using this mechanism. ovoareqsdr Request sender that informs the control agents to start, stop, or update their local OVO agents. The request sender is also responsible for the self-monitoring of OVO manager services, and for the heartbeat-polling of the managed nodes. opcctlm Control manager that starts and stops all other OVO manager processes, performs all licence checking, and controls OVO database maintenance. opcdispm Display manager that serves the OVO Motif-based GUI. The display manager also feeds the action manager with operator-initiated actions, application startup information (not requiring a separate terminal), and broadcasting information issued by operators. Several OVO user GUIs may be active at the same time, but only one Motif-based GUI can be run for each operator. Chapter 10 375
