This straightforward program teaches students question asking strategies that will improve their ability to ask
questions beginning with wh- words. Each well-organized unit follows this hierarchy of difficulty:
Target Questions and Modeling Script. Review the list of target questions and modeling script. The
see-at-a-glance list identifies the 20 questions you’ll teach in the unit. The modeling script provides an example of
metacognitive strategy teaching you can use with every question in that unit. The script changes as the
wh-question types change.
Picture Worksheets. Two picture sequences are presented for each target question. The first sequence is a
statement. The second picture sequence elicits a wh- question about the statement. Nouns and pronouns are
used throughout the program. The statement/question sheets gradually increase in difficulty. Each question
picture sequence begins with a large question mark that contains the wh- question word to help students visualize
the order of the question.
Unit Review Sheets. Unit review sheets test the student’s ability to write the questions using a picture clue.
Wrap-up worksheets. Test oral and/or written question asking skills with the Wrap-up worksheets. Students use
the illustration and corresponding statement to ask or write four questions about each picture.
For students who are visual learners, a picture symbol key is included.
