* The Storybook consists of two levels that target vocabulary strategies to increase comprehension.
Level 1: 10 Stories for Sight Word Comprehension
Teach the meaning of the sight words used in each story. The concepts and vocabulary are introduced with
the sight word comprehension cards and are then are reinforced on each page with an illustration and
sentence written with sight words and Boardmaker symbols.
Level 2: 10 Stories and Activities to Teach Comprehension Strategies
These stories are more complex and provide opportunities to practice these critical comprehension strategies:
looking for details in a picture
o looking for details in a picture
o creating visual images of vocabulary words
o creating visual images of sentences
o finding specific information in a text
o sequencing events in a story
o finding the main idea
* Sight Word Comprehension Cards consist of 8 perforated card booklets. They are a collection of 288 words
adapted from a list found in The Reading Teacher’s Book of Lists, as well as those found in many
children’s
books. The words are printed in two ways: words alone and symbols and/or illustrations for each word.
* The Dictionary consists of words organized into 39 categories and listed alphabetically. The Dictionary
includes definitions, words in sentences, and illustrations for each word.
