Room 28 is the room where your students come together to work on their social language skills. It is the place for
students to learn strategies they need to get along in school and in life. This is where you’ll present information
about communication skills, values, and emotions. You’ll teach students to solve problems, resolve conflicts, and
set goals for themselves.
This program equips instructors and students with the background knowledge and strategies to help students
resolve conflicts before they lead to violence. This instruction is designed to keep the school climate safe,
cooperative, and focused on learning.
Room 28 is a 2-book set. The Instructor’s Manual provides background information and directions for each
lesson. The Activity Book gives you reproducible activities to complete each lesson. Lessons offer a variety of
activities including vocabulary, role-play scripts, small group discussions, and independent worksheets.
Units in this program are organized in a hierarchy, as listed below:
Communication Skills
Students will initiate and participate in conversations appropriately.
Understanding Personal Values
Value clarification exercises will help students uncover their own value systems. Students will create personal
mottos to express their personal values.
Recognizing and Controlling Emotions
Students practice recognizing other peoples emotions as well as evaluating emotional responses rationally and
objectively.
Solving problems
Students evaluate solutions and outcomes and learn ways to avoid future problems.
Resolving conflicts
Students use their communication skills and problem-solving skills during conflict role-plays.
Setting goals
Students create appropriate action plans to achieve short-term and long-term personal goals.
This instruction is appropriate for and will benefit students with Asperger’s, learning disabilities, language
disorders, or hearing impairments.
