Nickel takes on teasing [electronic resource] :
a clickable social skill story. Version 1.0
Thinking Publications.
105.191 THI
Ages 6-10. A storybook designed to assist young children in the social skills needed to deal with getting teased,
teasing others, and witnessing teasing. Within the story children choose how to react to different social situations.
Contains an instructional resource manual located on the CD-ROM.
What’s Nickel up to now?
Focus on the social skills involved with being the target of teasing, teasing others, and witnessing teasing.
Students interact with an animated story and respond to a variety of social dilemmas. The student’s choices
determine the outcome of each page. The program responds with detailed feedback based on each student’s
decisions. As the stories unfold, the program tracks responses and stores the data for later review. Fun
characters and surprising animations keep children clicking for more!
Teasing is a confusing and commonly expressed problem for school age children. In Nickel Takes on Teasing: A
Clickable Social Skill Story, students help Nickel and her friends decide what to do in a variety of tense social
situations. Each story page models a different kind of teasing. Then the student selects how the character should
react from a number of responses (2-4 choices). Each response takes the page in a new direction demonstrating
both positive and negative outcomes.
Your students will take on teasing as they join Nickel Kapinski on her first day of school at Coyote Elementary.
Nickel wants to be sick and not have to be the new girl in school. As she goes through the day, she and her new
friends must react to being the target of teasing and other insulting remarks. What will Nickel and her friends do?
How will they react?
As with all the Nickel programs, you’ll enjoy these features:
* Multiple levels of difficulty
* Optional read-along text highlighting
* Pick-a-Page (teaches subskills in isolation)
* Comprehensive data collection for an unlimited number of students
* Save-game feature
* Customizable “do-over” options
* Self-Talk help providing cognitive mediation
In addition to the program you’ll also receive an Instructional Resource Guide (a printable document) which offers
valuable resource all by itself!
