**Caps For Sale : A Tale of a Peddler, Some Slobodkina, Esphyr. / Slobodkina, Esphyr. FIC .060 SLO
Monkeys and Their Monkey Business
Subtitled A Tale of a Peddler, Some Monkeys and Their Monkey Business, this absurd and very simple story has
become a classic, selling hundreds of thousands of copies since its first publication in 1940. A peddler walks
around selling caps from a tall, tottering pile on his head. Unable to sell a single cap one morning, he walks out
into the countryside, sits down under a tree, checks that all the caps are in place, and falls asleep. When he
wakes up, the caps are gone--and the tree is full of cap-wearing monkeys. His attempts to get the caps back
generate the kind of repetitive rhythm that 3- and 4-year-olds will adore. (Preschool and older)
Captain Underpants and the attack of the
talking toilets : an epic novel
Pilkey, Dav.
FIC .265 PIL
In this worthy sequel to The Adventures of Captain Underpants, Pilkey maintains the original's satiric,
self-referential formula as he revisits fourth-grade pranksters Harold and George, along with their school principal
and principle nemesis, Mr. Krupp (aka superhero Captain Underpants).
Trouble begins when Harold and George sabotage a science fair and are punished with "The Invention
Convention Detention." Bored, the boys collaborate on a comic book about Talking Toilets. To their surprise, the
Toilets come to life and Mr. Krupp's alter ego is called into service. Worst of all, even the brave Captain
Underpants may be no match for the Toilets' leader, "nearly a ton of twisting steel and raging porcelain" known as
the TT 2000.
Pilkey illustrates in uncomplicated black-and-white line drawings with washes of gray, and offers
"Flip-O-RamaTM," which requires turning a page back and forth for low-low-budget animation ("Don't forget to
add your own sound-effects!"). He promises "extremely graphic violence" in scenes of "a giant toilet getting its
shiny hiney kicked," ridicules teachers named "Ms. Ribble" and "Miss Anthrope" and decides that the story just
wouldn't be complete without "upchucking." Bart Simpson could learn a few things from the subversively hilarious
Harold and George, who consider inventing a robot urinal ("The Urinator"), then decide, "They'll never let us get
away with that in a children's book. We're skating on thin ice as it is!"
**Casper : Friends Forever! (A Golden
look-look book.) [Special ed.]
Morreale, Marie.
FIC .380 MOR
Ages 9-12. "A Golden book, New York." When twelve-year-old Kat Harvey moves into the mansion occupied by
Casper the friendly ghost, he is delighted at the propect of having a friend.
Catalogs & Mail Order : Life Skills
Remedia Publications
645 .295 REM
Catalogs & Mail Order is a great way to help students become more confident and independent as they work
through activities involving "real-life" situations. Students will get plenty of reading comprehension, writing, and
math practice as they learn how to buy merchandise from mail-order catalogs. Activities include: filling out order
forms, figuring shipping and handling charges, paying by check and credit card, ordering by mail and telephone,
and more!
Cats at the Campground (Animal Ark) #32 Baglio, Ben M
FIC .432 BAG
Mandy and James discover a stray cat and her kittens behind an old house. But the next time they visit, the cat
has moved her family into a trailer on Sam Western's campsite.
But Sam has no patience for animals--particularly cats.
Cause and Effect : Using causes and effects Warrick, Karen Clemens / Zarrin, Laura / 614.312 CLE
to make connections
Cause and effect relationships can be seen across the curriculum and throughout daily life. The cross-curricular
activities and reading selections in this book help students make critical connections between an action and its
effect. The activities in Cause & Effect for grades 1–2 allow students to progress from recognizing cause and
effect in art and in writing to writing cause and effect statements. Not only are these skills valuable for reading
comprehension, but they also help students understand that actions have consequences.
