T 4.29 Loss of data in a database caused by a lack of<br />

storage space<br />

Every storage medium has a limited capacity for holding data. This also<br />

applies to databases which need to incorporate a physical storage medium to<br />

allow the long term storage of data. Once this storage medium is exhausted,<br />

the database might crash and result in a loss of data. <strong>The</strong> consequences of this<br />

are described in T 4.28 Loss of data in a database.<br />

<strong>The</strong> capacity of a storage medium can suddenly be exhausted for a variety of<br />

reasons, e.g. errors in application programs, increased memory requirements<br />

by users, as well as deliberate intrusions aimed at lowering the storage<br />

capacity in order to disable auditing:<br />
