Selon une récente étude menée sur 42 volontaires, suite à un seul traitement par cryolipolyse de l’extérieur des cuisses, on mesure une diminution moyenne de 2,8 mm de l’épaisseur de la graisse (mesurée par échographie) après 8 semaines. Quels sont les risques ? Comme toutes les méthodes efficaces, la cryolipolyse comporte un risque. Ce rapport bénéfice/risque dépend de la qualité des machines utilisées et de l’expérience du praticien. Une récente évaluation (Avril 2018) de la Haute Autorité de Santé, fait état après analyse de 17 études publiées, de cas d’atteinte neurologique des nerfs cubital et radial (lors d’un traitement de dépôt graisseux sous les bras), de nécrose cutanée et d’hyperplasie paradoxale (apparition quelques mois après une séance d’un nouveau dépôt graisseux excédentaire). Les fréquences de ces effets indésirables sont rares, estimées entre 1/1000 et 1/100. Comment savoir si l’appareil utilisé est de bonne qualité ? Ces rares effets indésirables sont liés à l’utilisation d’appareils non validés, n’ayant pas le CE médical (sur la trentaine d’appareils actuellement sur le marché, seuls quatre ont ce marquage) ou à une expérience insuffisante des utilisateurs. On peut trouver sur internet des machines asiatiques à bas prix, qui ne bénéficient pas d’un marquage CE médical. Il faut donc donner la préférence aux machines validées qui sont présentées avec leurs propres études. What benefits can I expect? According to a recent study, carried out on 42 volunteers, following a single cryolipolysis treatment on the outer thighs, an average reduction of 2.8mm in the thickness of the fat was recorded (measured using a scan after 8 weeks). What are the risks? Like any effective method, cryolipolysis does involve risks. The benefit/risk ratio depends on the quality of the machines used and the practitioner’s experience. An analysis, carried out by the French Higher Health Authority in April 2018, of 17 published studies recorded cases of neurological damage to the ulnar and radial nerves (when treating fat deposits underneath the arms), skin necrosis and paradoxical hyperplasia (appearing a few months after treating a new excess fat deposit). The frequency of these side-effects are rare, estimated at between 1/1000 and 1/100. How can I tell if the device used is good quality? These rare, unpleasant side-effects were caused by the use of unapproved devices, which did not have the medical CE mark (of the thirty or so devices available on the market, only four have this mark) or the practitioner’s insufficient experience. You can even find cheap Asian machines online, which do not have the medical CE mark. So, it is best to use an approved machine that is backed up by its own studies. Is one session enough? After cryolipolysis, the adipocytes exposed to the cold decline and are gradually eliminated over two months. Two months later, a layer of adipose cells representing 20% of the volume treated has disappeared, and this is uniform. Obviously, we cannot eliminate all the cells in just one session. Two to three sessions are required for a 20mm bulge of fat, while 4 to 6 sessions are needed for a 45mm bulge. To conclude, cryolipolysis is a good method, which needs to be developed further, but it must be used properly. Une seule séance est-elle suffisante ? Après une séance de cryolipolyse, les adipocytes exposés au froid régressent, s’éliminent progressivement en deux mois. Deux mois plus tard, une couche de cellules adipeuses de l’ordre de 20% du volume traité a disparu, et ceci est uniforme. Il faut bien comprendre que toutes les cellules ne disparaissent pas en une seule séance. Deux à trois séances seront nécessaires pour un bourrelet de 20 mm d’épaisseur alors qu’il faudra 4 à 6 séances pour une épaisseur de 45 mm.
