Leptosphaeria rusci, Phyllosticta hypoglossi, che causano delle macu<strong>la</strong>ture<br />

sui c<strong>la</strong>dodi.<br />

Insetti: i principali fitofagi di questa pianta sono le cocciniglie (Aspidiotus<br />

nerii, Pinnaspis aspidistrae, Cerop<strong>la</strong>stes rusci).<br />

Note<br />

Nelle campagne, le fronde pungenti del pungitopo venivano usate <strong>per</strong> tenere<br />

lontani i topi dalle cantine, ponendole intorno al formaggio e vicino alle carni<br />

conservate. Da questo uso deriva <strong>il</strong> nome comune del<strong>la</strong> specie. Anche<br />

l'agrifoglio era usato al<strong>la</strong> stessa stregua, essendo infatti anche chiamato<br />

"pungitopo maggiore".<br />

Il pungitopo era conosciuto <strong>per</strong> le sue proprietà curative fin dall'antichità,<br />

venendo usato come <strong>la</strong>ssativo, diuretico e <strong>per</strong> favorire <strong>il</strong> flusso mestruale;<br />

Galeno e Plinio <strong>il</strong> Vecchio le riportano con questo uso.<br />
