Such a construction is quite difficult to build and therefore required rich
engineering knowledge and skills. This, as well as planning and construction
of grandiose defensive systems require a lot of effort and skilful work,
which must have been based on the excellent organization of large numbers
of people in a socially well developed society.
Archaeological monuments on Iori Plateau dated by the end of the 2 nd
millennium and the beginning of the 1 st millennium B.C. are characterized
with the ceramic and bronze articles manufactured with the exquisite technology.
Particularly large numbers of bronze arms of that period have been
found there. Graves of that period testify that almost all men, alongside with
their civil engagements were warriors as well since they are buried with
their arms. Thus we can assume that the society they belonged to was, if
necessary, able to mobilize large and strong, well-armed cavalry.
Significant social advancement and strong military potential of the society
on Iori Plateau at the end of the 2 nd millennium and particularly the
beginning of the 1 st millennium B.C is testified by the fact that their military
equipment included martial carriages giving us ground for assuming that
they could also have regular military units.
Taking in account all the above-said we may assume that at that time the
Iori Plateau society in case of necessity could mobilize well-equipped army
consisting of infantry, horseback and military carriage units and were capable
of effectively fighting back against strong armies with the best equipments.
The large quantity of the open mines for getting ore and iron processing
workshops attest that at the end of the 2 nd millennium and the beginning of
the 1 st millennium B.C. iron ore was intensively processed. Thus, we may
assume that metallurgical iron was one of the major economic foundations
for the establishment of this civilization and the driving force of development.
It could be also the leverage of exceptional social advancement.
Considering all the above-said we may apparently assume that by the
end of the 2 nd millennium and the beginning of the 1 st millennium B.C. the
indications of existence of the Georgian ethno-cultural identity were present
in the central part of the South Caucasus.
