opponents by an appeal to Scripture as against<br />

<strong>the</strong>ir traditians, perhaps ultimately even by an<br />

attack on traditionalism; but always as represented<br />

by <strong>the</strong> Pharisees.' A careful examinatifm <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

statements <strong>of</strong> Josephus on this subject will show<br />
