expressed in <strong>the</strong> Targom on Is. ix. 6, iniT. <strong>and</strong> in<br />

that on Micah v. 2. But <strong>the</strong> Midrash oi^ Prov. viii.<br />

9 ^ ex- ^^J^"^ pressly mentions <strong>the</strong> <strong>Messiah</strong> among<br />

<strong>the</strong> seven things created before <strong>the</strong> world. ^ <strong>The</strong><br />

passage is <strong>the</strong> more important, as it throws light on<br />

quite a series <strong>of</strong> o<strong>the</strong>rs, in which <strong>the</strong> Name <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

<strong>Messiah</strong> is said to ,<br />

have been created before <strong>the</strong> world.^^ Even if this<br />

conception, it would inrove <strong>the</strong> <strong>Messiah</strong> to be<br />

elevated above <strong>the</strong> ordi- ^^-f^Jf*-nary conditions<br />

<strong>of</strong> humanity. But it means much more than this,<br />

<strong>Messiah</strong> lomst before His actual S-1;'
