BOOK It is strange how little we know <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

personal history <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> I greatest <strong>of</strong> uninspired<br />

Jewish writers <strong>of</strong> old, though he occupied so<br />

prominent a position in his time.^ Philo was bom<br />
