underst<strong>and</strong> how, with a disease which not only<br />

rendered her Levitically defiling, but where<br />

womanly shamefacedness would make public<br />

speech so diflBcult, she, thinking <strong>of</strong> Him Whose<br />

Word, spoken at a distance, had brought healing,<br />

might thus seek to have her heart's desire. What<br />

strong faith to expect help where all human help,<br />

so long <strong>and</strong> earnestly sought, had so signally<br />

failed! And what strong faith to expect, that even<br />

contact with Him, <strong>the</strong> bare touch <strong>of</strong> His garment,<br />

would carry such Divine Power as to make her '<br />

whole.' Yet in this very strength lay also its<br />

weakness. She believed so much in Him, that she<br />

felt as if it needed not personal appeal to Him; she<br />

felt so deeply <strong>the</strong> hindrances to her making request<br />

<strong>of</strong> Himself, that, believing so strongly in Him, she
