henceforth continued, <strong>the</strong> innermost circle,* might<br />

witness, without present danger to <strong>the</strong>mselves or<br />

o<strong>the</strong>rs, what was about to take place. How <strong>Jesus</strong><br />

dismissed <strong>the</strong> multitude, or else kept <strong>the</strong>m at bay,<br />

or where He parted from all His disciples except<br />

Peter, James, <strong>and</strong> John, does not clearly appear,<br />

<strong>and</strong>, indeed, is <strong>of</strong> no importance. He may have left<br />

<strong>the</strong> nine Apostles with <strong>the</strong> people, or outside <strong>the</strong><br />

house, or parted from <strong>the</strong>m in <strong>the</strong> courtyard <strong>of</strong><br />

Jairus' house before he entered <strong>the</strong> inner<br />

apartments.^<br />
