limits. All depended on who had originally<br />

ritual obligations lay upon it. Ideally, as we may<br />

had covenanted to give to Israel, although never<br />

which we write, a sort <strong>of</strong> inner b<strong>and</strong> around ' <strong>the</strong><br />

l<strong>and</strong>,' in its narrowest <strong>and</strong> only real sense; just as<br />

<strong>the</strong> countries in which Israel was specially<br />

interested, such as Egypt, Babylon, Ammon, <strong>and</strong>
