inserting it. If <strong>the</strong> first Parable, concerning <strong>the</strong><br />

Sower <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> Field <strong>of</strong> Sowing, would prove to all<br />

who were outside <strong>the</strong> pale <strong>of</strong> discipleship a *<br />

mystery,' while to those within it would unfold<br />

knowledge <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> very mysteries <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Kingdom,<br />

this would even more fully be <strong>the</strong> case in regard to<br />

this, second or supplementary Parable. In it we are<br />

only viewing that portion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> field, which <strong>the</strong><br />

former Parable had described as good soil. * So is<br />

<strong>the</strong> Kingdom <strong>of</strong> God, as if a man had cast <strong>the</strong> seed<br />

on <strong>the</strong> earth, <strong>and</strong> slept <strong>and</strong> rose, night <strong>and</strong> day, <strong>and</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> seed sprang up <strong>and</strong> grew: how, he knows not<br />

himself. Automatons' [self-acting] <strong>the</strong> earth beareth<br />

fruit: first blade, <strong>the</strong>n ear, <strong>the</strong>n full wheat in <strong>the</strong><br />

ear! But when <strong>the</strong> fruit presents itself, immediately<br />

he sendeth forth* <strong>the</strong> sickle, because <strong>the</strong> harvest is<br />
