Somewhat like H. li1'issa but the elytral sculpturing is smooth,<br />
lacking the definite ridges j antennae sborter in both sexes j elytral<br />
pale markings more diffused; and antennal horns in male much<br />
shorter, less robust, vertical, straight.<br />
1fALE. Elongate-ovate, rather robust, subcylindrical, above subdepressed;<br />
dark reddish-brown to fuscous, elytra slightly paler, entirely covered with dense<br />
pubescence. Head brown pubescent, with It pale, grayish vitta at middle and sev<br />
eral indistinct, irregular ones behind eaeh eye, variable in number; eye outlined<br />
posteriorly with rosy-gray, the marginal line below running as a stripe down the<br />
genae to mouth. Pronotum brown pubescent, vittate with palc rose and hoary<br />
gray as follows : median one narrow, on apical half, one each side of middle broad,<br />
slightly oblique, lateral aile very broad, covering most of side, slightly oblique.<br />
Scutellum brown, basal angles whitish. Elytra hoary and brown Variegated, striped<br />
basally with rosy to middle or beyond, at apical third of sides many angulated lines<br />
of white e;\iend obliquely forward to before middle, but do not attain suture, be<br />
hind this line a broad band of brown similar in shape and extent to it; apical por<br />
tion similar to basal part, the rosy stripes coalescing apically, sides below humeri<br />
entirely brown to beyond middle. Body beneath fuscous, hoary pube.::cent medially,<br />
laterally rose and brown variegated, the latter color predominRting on extreme sides ;<br />
abdomen largely roseate, with two series of small pale maculae each side, onc<br />
row along margin, one submedian, fifth sternite mostly hoary, Legs fuscous, cov<br />
ered with brown, hoary, and rose variegated pubesccnce; t,arsai claw segment not<br />
paler basally. Antennae dark reddish-brown, brown pubescent, variegated with<br />
hoary pubescence, segments beginning with fifth narrowly annulate at base with<br />
gray.<br />
Head minutely, densely punctate, with a median line from occiput to epistoma;<br />
front almost as broad as high, broadly but strongly concave between antennal<br />
tubercles, minutely, densely punctate and with a number of fme punctures especi<br />
ally laterally; genae slightly vertical, minutely alutaceous; eye with lower lobe<br />
oblong-ovate, exceeding the genal height by one-t.hird; antennal tubercles robust,<br />
prominent, widely separated, at a.pex a short robust tooth, almost as broad as long.<br />
Pronotum very strongly transverse, sides irregular, narrower at apex than at base,<br />
lateral tubercle low, broad, with a robust, conical process; apical and basal trans<br />
verse sulci broad, not well marked, the latter especially poorly defmed, coalescent<br />
with the deep lateral oblique sulci; disk with a low median tubercle, each side trans<br />
versely and strongly tumid, impressed here and there, across base a number of<br />
moderate--sized punctures. Scutellum transverse, sides strongly oblique, straight;<br />
