GENOTYPE : Lachnia subcincta Serville, by monotypy.<br />

From the illustration in Waterhouse, the genus appears to be<br />

close to J amesia in body form and in shape and size of the eye.<br />

From it, it is distinct in the seape being robust, strongly clavate,<br />

third antennal segment straight, nearly twice as long as first ;<br />

humeri with anteriOl' mal'gin strongly oblique, angle with a distinct<br />

tubercle j front elongate, feebly narrowed above j eye with<br />

lower lobe nearly three times genal height j genae transverse.<br />

"Six lines long. Body brown, slightly shining, covered in part with short<br />

pubescence, variegated with brown, yellow, and ashy. Head with groove above<br />

margined posteriorly, feebly so before, irregular, slightly convex, spotted with<br />

black and tawny. Elytra irregular and punctate, especially at base, with a gray,<br />

irregular, transverse band at middle, about one-fourth elytra in width, dentate<br />

posteriorly, interrupted at suture. Sternum covered with gray down. Antennae<br />

trown, with variegated down and tawny hairs. Legs brown, with tawny down.<br />

elytra with basal gibbosities distinct, disk at base finely punctate ;<br />

Moderate in size, elongate-ovate, robust. Head with front elongate, broad,<br />

slightly convex when viewed from side, sides slightly narrowed below eye; gena<br />

very elongate, narrow; eye with lower lobe subquadrate, small, about one-third<br />

the height of gena ; llntennnl tubercles prominent, subapproximate, in male<br />

with short, acute tccth at apex, in female with a very short, obtuse projection<br />

thcre. Pronotum transversc, subconical, sides unarmed; disk with five tubercles,<br />

two of which are marc or less transverse. Scutellum transverse. Elytra with
