Resembles H. chaseba and allies in the coloration but is distinct<br />

from all that group in the prollotum having on disk either side of<br />

middle a single, large tumescence (instead of two tubercles each<br />

side) ; clytra distinctly less attenuate, with basal gibbosities much<br />

broader, humeri more projecting, tubercle at angle larger ; eye<br />

with lower lobe longer than gena ; procoxae in male strongly tuberculate;<br />

abdomen medially thinly gray pubescent ; antennae<br />

nearly one and one· half times length of body in male.<br />

:M ALE. Elongate, ovate, very robu8t, convex ; fuscous, densely covered with<br />

pule gray-fulvoU3 }1ubesnmce, mottled with brown. Front lnrgcly brown p\lbe,cent.<br />

Pronot,al tumescences tinged with brown. Scutellum narrowly brown medially.<br />

Elytrn. gra.y-fulvous pubescent on base, rest dark brown, mottled with gra.y-fulvous.<br />

Body bene:ltn reddish-brown, hoary pubescent medially, at sides: pille gray-fulvous,<br />

metepistorna and met..'1stcrnum latenlly maculate with brown; abdomen medially<br />

piceous, covered with short, hoary puuoscencc, through which only a little of the<br />

shining surface shows, at sides of each sternite, except fifth, a broad, truncated,<br />

triangular macula of fulvous, the base coinciding with the apical margin of the<br />

stcrnitcs, on Jirst. sternite reduced to an oval spot.. Legs piceous or dark reddish­<br />

brown, irregularly eovered wit.h short, hoary, brown, and fulvous pubescence; mes:o­<br />

and metafemora indistinctly annui3te with fulvolls before apex, tarsal claw segment<br />

not paler (nor annulate) basally. Antennae fuscous, segments from fourth narrowly<br />

roseate bastillYi dark brown pubescent, pale bases and bas!l.l half of third segment<br />

hoary annulate; scape fulvous basally, d.'lrk brown toward apex.<br />

Head above minutely alutaceolLs, with a median line from occiput to epistoma;<br />

front Il3rrowly concave between antcnnal tubercles, minutely alutaceous; genae<br />

vertical, minutely punctate, with a few larger punctures interspersed ; eye with<br />

lower lobo broadly oblong, one-third again the height of gena ; antennal tubercles<br />
