Variation.-A male from Quito, Ecuador, in the A.M.N.H. has<br />

a very small, elongate, orange-ocbraceous macula on each elytron<br />

at apical quarter of disk, in addition to the two others in the typical<br />

specimens. The only other differences are in the sparser tubercles<br />

on the basal balf of elytra and the pubescence uniformly dark<br />

brown beneath. As this migllt prove to be simply an aberration no<br />

name is proposed here for it.<br />

Robust and oblong-triangular, uniformly piceous above and<br />

beneath and clothed with och1'aceons pubescence ; mandibles black ;<br />

palpi black, tips reddish.<br />

Hcad very elongatc, narrowly triangular and flat in front, deeply sngularly<br />

depressed between the antennal tubercles, which are ruther strongly elevated and<br />

nearly contiguous, the surface coarsely rugose, with a few, short, ochmceous hairs<br />

between the rugae; eyes feebly convex, deeply emarginate, and narrowly separated<br />

from each other 011 the top, lower lobes nearly qUfLdrate, upper ones very small and<br />

narrow. Antennae .m ther robust, longer than body, reddish-black, densely clothed<br />

with very short, recumbent, brownish pubescence and densely ciliate beneath with<br />

long, erect bairs ; scape rather long, subcylindrical, extending to middle of pronotum<br />

; third segment slightly longer than first and fourth, fifth to eighth subequal<br />

in length.<br />

Pronotum nearly twice as wide as long, apex slightly narrower than base;<br />

sides tapering and subtuberculate; surface uneven, coarsely rugose, sparsely clothed<br />

with short, recumbent, brownish-yellow pubescence, anterior and posterior margins<br />

with .'\ fringe of densely placed, long, recumben.t, orange-yellow hairs. Scutellum<br />

large, triangular, broadly truncate behind, and rather densely pubescent, with a<br />

nurrow glabrous line medially.<br />

Elytra at base nearly one-half wider than. pronotum, two times as long as<br />

wide; humeri strongly developed, shining from before to apex, as in certain
