Female workers. Although it is widely accepted<br />

that the magnitude <strong>of</strong> radiation-related cancer risks<br />

can be different in women than in men, occupational<br />

studies have less information to contribute to this<br />

issue. The international pooled cohort, for example,<br />

was less than 15% female, and female doses were<br />

almost ten times lower, on average, than male<br />

doses (Cardis et al. 1995). In that analysis the solid<br />

cancer risk estimate for women was 0.97/Sv but was<br />

accompanied by a high degree <strong>of</strong> uncertainty (90%<br />
