The authors’ preferred model included an age effect whereby risk decreased with attained age. The estimates presented in this table are for 60-yr old
workers. Results of the model without age consideration are 0.27/Sv (gamma) and 0.61/Sv (alpha).
Relative risks were calculated based on body burden rather than dose. For the 3 bone cancer deaths with body burdens greater than 7.4 kBq the RR was
7.9 (95% CI 1.6-32). For the 16 liver cancer deaths with body burdens greater than 7.4 kBq the RR was 17 (95% CI 8.0-36).
The solid cancer risk estimates presented here are the linear terms in concave-down linear-quadratic dose-response curves. The leukemia risk estimate,
from a linear dose-response model, is for the entire follow up period although the risk for the period 3-5 years post-exposure was significantly higher
(ERR 6.9/Gy, 90% CI 2.9-15).
