resident or migrant with a<br />

widespread distribution through<br />

most of California. Prefers a<br />

mosaic of various-aged vegetation<br />

that provides woody cover,<br />

meadow and shrubby openings,<br />

and free water.<br />

Mule deer migration routes and important habitat<br />

areas were documented during relicensing studies.<br />

For the Blue Canyon mule deer herd, fawning areas<br />

are located along the north shore of Hell Hole<br />

reservoir (about 0.5 mile east of French Meadows<br />

powerhouse), critical summer range habitat is present<br />

in the areas surrounding upper Hell Hole reservoir and<br />

French Meadows reservoir, critical winter range<br />

habitat is present at <strong>Middle</strong> <strong>Fork</strong> interbay and along<br />

Brushy Canyon adit road, holding areas are present<br />

along the northwest shore of Hell Hole reservoir, and<br />

migration routes are present in the vicinity of Hell<br />

Hole reservoir and French Meadows reservoir. For<br />

the Pacific mule deer herd, only critical summer range<br />

habitat is present in the area surrounding Hell Hole<br />

reservoir.<br />
