Waar + preposition
The relative pronoun waar + preposition is used to refer to things that are
accompanied by a preposition. This is often the case when the main verb
of the sentence has a preposition: vertellen over, denken aan, zorgen voor,
lijken op, protesteren tegen, raden naar, reageren op, etc. Examples:
Wie
When the antecedent is a person, however, and when the verb is accompanied
by a preposition, we cannot use the pronoun waar + preposition,
but we use the combination wie with a preposition. Examples:
Is that the woman to whom Erik is married?
Waar zit de persoon aan wie ik dit formulier moet geven?
Where is the person to whom I should give this form?
Is er iemand voor wie je dat niet zou doen?
Is there someone for whom you wouldn’t do that?
