4.2.3 Employment Status of Economically Active Population (by Place of Residence)
The employ ment status of the economically active population is depicted by
TABLE 4.6. “Economically active people” refers to all people betw een the ages of 15-
65 years who provide their labour for production of goods and services and includes
people in the formal-, and informal sectors, as well as the unemployed. 50% of the
population in the study area is economically active. This is expected to decrease
slightly to 48% by 2010 as the influence of AIDS becomes noticeable, but is expected
to increase again to 50% by 2025.
